Abstract

We discuss a site-based stochastic model for competition in a single species with discrete, non-overlapping generations. In the deterministic limit the possible dynamics of the population includes "Li-Yorke chaos", and in any case is strongly dependent on the modes of competition between individuals. The full model, including stochastic effects, turns out to depend very sensitively on details of the interaction.
