Abstract

We study the minimal set of periods for Morse-Smale diffeomorphisms on orientable compact surfaces. In order to do that we introduce the concept of minimal set of Lefschetz periods. We provide explicit information about these sets on surfaces of lower genus and give an algorithm that allows to compute them on surfaces of any genus.
