Abstract

Chaotic transport is based on structures that are formed of pieces of stable and unstable manifolds for normally hyperbolic invariant manifolds, called lobes. We present a formula that measures the volume of such lobes and show the relation with the classic theory of Melnikov for separatrix splitting.
