Cocoon bifurcation in piecewise linear systems

Abstract

It has been shown that the dynamic richness of piecewise linear differential systems (PWLS) is comparable to that of the general differential systems. Thus, the existence of homoclinic or/and heteroclinic orbits in PWLS should not surprise us. However, what it is really surprising is that it can be proved that they reproduce with amazing accuracy some of the bifurcations, even the most complex ones. In this work we analyze the existence in a piecewise linear version of the Michelson system of a tangent bifurcation sequence called the cocoon bifurcation.
