Abstract:

This is a survey talk on the basics of hyperbolic geometry (Poincaré metric and distance, Scwartz-Pick lemma, etc.) and how to apply it to prove some results in complex dynamics. A basic result we will prove is that any immediate basin of attraction of a rational map must contain a critical point.
