Work Package 3 (summer schools, workshops, annual meetings, etc)

Objectives

O3.1 Organize the project activities of knowledge sharing (secondments, seminars and meetings).
O3.2 Organize two project summer schools.
O3.3 Organize the outreach activities.
O3.4 Organize 4 project Workshops, 4 annual meetings, 1 Conference and 1 website.

Task 3.1. Organize project activities of knowledge sharing: secondments, seminars and meetings.

ESRs and ERs will take part in the planned secondments. Eligibility conditions for participation in secondments will be checked by the home local managers for own researchers prior starting a secondment. The local home managers will decide on behalf of their institutions which researchers will take part in the secondments. The local managers are in charge with all project activities, including the planned research and training, related to their own institutions, including for inserting the details of the achieved secondments in the official Participant Portal. They will supervise all scientific and management activities related to own institutions. The planned seminars may take place at any time during the project implementation. The local managers are in charge to organize the events.

Task 3.2. Organize 2 project summer schools with duration of one week each event.

The first summer school will be organized by UPT and the second by UAB, presumably during the second and third summers of the project. The persons in charge with these events are the local managers of the corresponding partners, supervised by the project manager. A number of up to 25 Ph.D students or postdocs will be accepted to attend each such event. The participants should have a background in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics or Informatics and show interest on topics from the project scientific fields. These events target participants firstly from the consortium partners, secondly from other EU research institutions and thirdly from other worldwide countries. At least 2/3 of the participants must come from EU research institutions. While priority for attendance will be given to Ph.D students and postdocs, other interested researchers and MSc students may participate if places are available. Each local manager in accord with the project manager will decide for own summer school which of the applicants are accepted to participate and will communicate the exact place, time and facilities of the event on the project website. No fee will be asked from the participants for the courses. A typical load with training activities during these events is 6 hours per day equally divided for 3 courses.

  1. The summer school 1 (UPT) is focused on smooth Dynamical Systems Theory
  2. The summer school 2 (UAB) will train on non-smooth Dynamical Systems Theory

Task 3.3. Prepare 3 press articles to be addressed at the public at large and related to the project scientific activities.

The articles will be written in English, then translated (if needed) in the native languages of the academic EU partners. Each of the local managers of UAB, UPT and OU is in charge to write one of the three articles, translate own article in own language (if needed) and publish it in own country in a newspaper or science magazine that accept such articles. The English version of the articles will be displayed on the project website. The project manager will supervise this task. The local managers will decide if a translation in own language of the articles is needed.

Task 3.4. A leaflet to encourage school pupils and university students to embrace a career in science will be created (in english).

Contributions for conceiving this leaflet will be requested from all local EU managers. Each local manager from the academic EU partners will print and distribute 250 copies per year to the target groups (pupils, students, parents, schools and universities). The local managers will decide where and how will distribute the leaflets.

Task 3.5. We plan to organize one-day 4 Workshops as follow: UAB 1, UPT 1, OU 1, UCV 1 at the months, respectively, 13, 25, 36, 42.  The local managers are in charge with these events.

Task 3.6. Create a project website.

Task 3.7. Support scientifically and financially 2-6 ERs from the consortium partners to become habilitated.
